Winter wheat is an important crop grown in much of Tennessee.  Wheat is often double cropped with soybean, and besides grain production, is also grown as a winter cover for reduced-tillage systems.  Wheat is also commonly planted in food plots for wildlife.  About 500,000 acres are planted annually, of which over 300,000 acres are harvested.  Yields of wheat grown for grain typically average 40-60 bushels per acre.
