The Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Program is a volunteer-led program that teaches life skills through shooting sports. Youth learn safety and shooting techniques in the disciplines of shotgun, rifle, archery, muzzleloader and hunting. This program is affiliated with National 4-H Shooting Sports. Contact your County Extension Office for more information on joining 4-H.
Volunteer Instructors
Be a Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor. "4-H Certified" means that you are versed in the areas of youth development AND shooting sports. If you want to lead a group of young people in the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, you must become certified through a Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Training Event. Future training events are scheduled for January 30-31, 2009 at Buford Ellington 4-H Center in Milan, TN and February 27-28, 2009 at Ridley 4-H Center in Columbia, TN. State 4-H Shoots
The Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports State Shotgun Shoot will be held on November 15, 2008 at the Tennessee Clay Target Complex in Nashville, TN. Click here for General Rules, specific Shotgun Competition Rules, and a Schedule. For registration, download the Competitor Registration Form and the Summary Form. Registration is due with agent's signature in the State 4-H Office by October 24.
4-H Target Smart Camp
4-H Target
Smart Camp is a program of Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports. It is for youth who are enrolled in grades
5-12 on January 1 of the current calendar year. This
resident camp is located at the W.P. Ridley 4-H Center
in
Columbia, Tennessee. At camp youth learn appropriate skills
to succeed in a variety of shooting sports and related
areas
such as archery, riflery, shotgun use, muzzleloading, and
outdoor skills. Programs emphasize safety, correct form,
and
responsible use. Campers should receive prior training before attending this camp.

Record-keeping
Participants in 4-H Shooting Sports should be keeping records of their participation. Completing a portfolio is the way to do this. Click here for forms and instructions. In addition, you may also use archery, rifle, muzzleloader, and shotgun scoresheets to monitor your progress.
