The conference was sponsored by gifts from a variety of donors with an interest in providing positive youth development opportunities for Tennessee 4-H members. MESSAGE FROM ALICE ANN MOORE

Many of you have heard that I will be retiring on July 31, 2008 after over 31 years with Extension. Although, I know most of you think I am too young to retire, I have been planning this for a year. I have had what I consider a successful and good career as an Extension agent, district director and State Director for 4-H Youth Development. The best part of my work with Extension has been the people, especially working with agents and the youth.

I hope that I am leaving the 4-H Youth Development Department and Tennessee 4-H better than it was before I came... that should be a goal for us all... to leave things better than when we came. After I talked with Dr. Goan and Dr. Cross about my retirement, both of them asked if I would consider working part-time for a while to ease the transition since there will be two vacancies in the Extension administration team (4-H and ag program leader positions).

I have agreed to work part-time until the end of 2008. Steve Sutton and I have worked together for almost 30 years, as agents in the Smoky Mountain District as well as the state 4-H office. I think he will be a good “boss.”

I am retiring because my husband Harry and I want to travel more, enjoy our hobbies and interests, spend time with my family in West Tennessee and do some volunteer work. I have had some good advice from retired Extension agents and administration. Almost everyone who has retired says not to wait.

Since many of you have inquired about the short notice with the announcement, I thought I would let you know, I will be around for a while and hope to see many of you before the end of the year.
